We were playing Robbers Roost in 1988 during my freinds bachelor party week. We were hitting on to green over water. My freind came up short just over the water and when he asked where it was, he was told it was near the tire track on the left. All of a sudden the tire track started to move. It was an ALLIGATOR! We still laugh when we tell that story. I love Myrtle Beach. We go at least once a year and each time we go we have another great memory.

Our best golfer with the worse temper on the trip hit a bad tee shot then threw his driver. The driver landed in a nasty little swampey pond past the tee box. He then stripped down to his undies (tighty whities) and went in to get it. As he struggled to keep his head above water the worst golfer with the craziest attitude thought he would work on his cannonballs well he soaked the good golfer with nasty water. Good golfer tried to drown bad golfer until the bad golfer found his driver at the bottom of the pond. All was well again

The weather in the northeast corner of the US can be a bit unpredictable in the months of November and December. That never stopped our group from heading to the Grand Strand for the closeout of our golf season. One particular year, the weather and Karma was really was against us. Our regular foursome was ready to go. So we thought. We were set to leave at 7am sharp. With a 10 hour ride, that would get us there around 5-6pm, dinner time. The group started to arrive at my house for departure. One by one, they arrived with clubs in hand and bags packed. Our driver, the one with the mini-van shows up 15 minutes late with no bag or clubs. He proceeds to tell us that for reasons not understandable to the regular person, he is not going on the trip. Panic eventually controls anxiety as we start to think how this will affect the plans. Tee times are set, the hotel is expecting 4, not 3 to arrive. Eveything is now up in the air. After a few unsuccessful last minute pleas to other golfers, our threesome embarks on the trip laced with bad karma. Six hours into the trip, the heavens opened up. It rained and rained and rained the remaining 8 hours of the ride. You can't go 65 mph with torrential rails falling. Now that it was near 11 pm, dinner was what ever you could find in the hotel vending machines and some warm beer from the coolers. After the hellish ride, we were too tired to go our. We wanted to go to sleep. After all, we were teeing off in 8 hours. We opened our eyes to sunny skies. Had a quick bite to eat and hit the first tee. By the 4th hole, the heavens returned the rains. It rained and rained and rained. We finished the 17th hole, and it cleared up. Just in time for lunch in the club house. Time to dry off, change clothes and get ready for the 2pm tee time. Sunny skies were finally here. At least until the 12th hole. It rained and rained and rained. AGAIN. Time to finish, go back to the hotel, change and go to dinner. Oh yea, and check messages at home. One thing he shouldn't have done. One member of the group decided to check messages while we hung out at the sports bar in the hotel. Big mistake. Bad karma again. Long story short, he was about to be fired. It is kind of tough to give your side of a story when you are over 650 miles away. Needless to say, the nights mood was pretty much set. No fancy dinner, no night life, not much of anything. Except for a 3 hour dinner/councelling session at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken. Hey, at least it wasn't raining, right? The next morning it was sunny. We played our round of golf and stayed dry. Changed our clothes and headed home. One speeding ticket and 10 hours later we were home. And yes it was snowing. A perfect way to end the trip. Go figure. We went back the next year. 4 of us.

The year was 1997 and we went to an auction where one of the prizes was a week in Myrtle Beach. It was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo on the beach and the value was estimated at $1600.00. Bids opened at $400.00 and I boldly offered $200.00. There were no other bidders so not only was that my best I stayed at the best place I'd ever stayed there and enjoyed the best week of the 10 or more times we made the trip. It was also a bit sentimental as with a child heading off to college, we figured this might be our last family vacation together and so it was. In fact, getting stuck on an elevator when a summer storm knoocked out the power just added to the memories.

My favorite memory of Myrtle Beach is without question the trip I took with my oldest son John, in April of 2003. John had just turned 13 and, as a present, we planned a father/son golf trip to the Grand Strand. At the beginning of the trip the weather was a bit spotty - some rain, wind, a little chill in the air. But each day the weather improved a little bit more. We were to be there for four days and planned to play 2 rounds per day - with the exception being our getaway day on which we were only going to be able to play one round. Each day we played a morning round, had lunch in the clubhouse, and either replayed the course or went to another of the great courses in the area. We were able to play some great courses - True Blue, Heritage, Caledonia (the favorite of both my son and I). In the evening we would go out for a great dinner at one of the many excellent resturants in the area. If the trip ended right there we would have ranked it as one of the best times we ever had together. As it turned out, the best was yet to come. On our last day we played the final round of our trip at Pawley's Plantation. We came to the 13th hole- a short Par 3 with water right in front of the green. The pin was in the front of the green, no more than 5-7 feet from the water. I put my tee shot on the back of the green, clearly keeping the water out of play. John stepped up to the tee and took a couple of practice swings with his sand wedge. He put a beautiful swing on the ball and we both watched as it headed straight for the flag. The ball landed no more than one foot from the water, bounced once and landed in the cup. A hole in one! Needless to say we were both walking on air for the rest of the round. John called everyone of his uncles to brag as we drove to the airport. When we returned home, John recieved a package from Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. In the package was a plaque memorializing the hole-in-one. What a great thing to do! That plaque still hangs in a place of honor in our home. The memory of that trip will live forever with my son and I. Thanks.

In the late 80s, I was in college in Philadelphia and my father and I were flying to Myrtle with a bunch of his friend for a 4-5 day golf trip. I had a final term paper due on our departure date and of course waited until the last minute to get it done. I was up all night at my girlfriend's house (now my wife of 16 years) and got it done. She went to the same school and delivered it to my prof. Arrived home at 6 AM to a very pissed off pop-packed real quick and got in the car-Dad drove on the East River Drive 20 miles over the limit and didn't say a word to me the whole trip to the airport. Things got better after we were on time for the flight. Highlight of the trip was even par round at Pawleys Plantation and good time with my Dad who died in '92 of Lung CA. Have been back a few times since but will always remember the trip with my Dad.

cigars and golf go hand in hand. while playing golf at grande dunes, we had come off the 9th green and got back in the carts to go to the 10th tee. the cart path cuts in front of the 10th tee and off to the right. the tee is 20 yards or so back of cart parking. we got out of the carts. my buddy was done with his cigar and tossed it aside. we went back to the tee and teed off. by the time we got back to the carts, pine straw was in flames from the cigar. we made sure the fire was out before we proceeded down the fairway and kept a listening ear out for fire truck sirens for the balance of the round.

It was in 1987 that I played in my first Dupont World Amateur and what a thrill it was! I have played golf nearly all of my life, but nothing compared to that experience! On the first day, I shot my handicap which meant that I could record an even par round. The guys that I played with all told me that I should be on the leaderboard at the convention center. I was charged! That night I went to the center and right there in 5th place was my name! What a thrill! I came out pumping my fist and my family who had waited in our van began to cheer! They were so excited for me. The next day I shot 102 and reality sat in! I finished 38th in my division which was pretty good...but that first day will be a thrill of a lifettime for this duffer!

I have two stories, different trips and a different make-up of players. The first story is from Arrowhead, where we had the 1st tee time in order to get our final round in before driving back to Pa. Because we had the first time, there was a frost delay and we were hanging aroundthe 1st tee awaiting the OK to tee off. While we were waiting one of the guys, the organizer of this 15 player trip, took out some new balls and started chipping them across the first tee. Well, while some of us watched he's chipping new balls across the tee into a pond on the other side. After four or five went into the pond, one guys says to him, "Hey John, do you know there is a pond over there?". Of course, he didn't know and wasn't too happy about the lost balls before he hit his first tee shot. We all laughed for awhile and we bring this up to him time-to-time, as a subtle reminder. The 2nd story I have was also a 1st tee story, this time at King's North. One of the guys on the trip had been playing horribly all week and losing balls at an alarming rate. So, he had to buy balls that morning for the round. This time he decided on used balls, a good choice. So, while we were waiting on the 1st tee, he noticed there was water around it. Knowing all well that he'll hit a couple in the water, considering how poorly he's played the previous rounds. Instead of waiting to hit them in, he took the balls out of the bag and threw three balls in the water in order to save himself the aggravation of hitting three in. He took a drop on the other side of the water and his round got underway. The rest of the foursome was laughing so hard, we could barely keep ourselves composed in order to hit our tee shots. A comical moment that we re-live almost everytime Myrtle Beach is discussed.

Several years back, a group of eight golfers left NJ for eleven rounds in six days. You know , two a day until you drop. My roommate, Jack, couldn't sleep the first night and was really tired the first day. We were playing Caledonia and he didn't see a black squirell come running out across the path and clipped it with the cart. The poor little critter died and Jack spent the next five nights sleepless in Myrtle Beach. On the putting green the last day while Jack was warming up, a black squirell ran right across his line with what looked like a black arm band around his arm. Jack took it as a sign that all the little critters forgave him for his misfortune. On the plane ride home, he slept like a baby for the first time in a week.

My favorite memory of our many Myrtle Beach trips was long week-end trip from Indiana ! My friends, Robert & Larry picked me up at the airport and we headed straight to the golf course - WILD WING PLANTATION - I forget which course we played day but we started on a Par 5 (#10)and did not have time to hit any balls before tee time so we started "cold". Anyway, I got a eagle (the first of my life) on that very first hole with a beautiful drive and a three metal to about 5 feet - sunk the putt for a 3 ! Great way to start the week-end! That evening we dined at Carolina Roadhouse which serves a "honey butter crossiant" with the meals. During our meal, our waitress inquired "how is everything and my friend Robert replied "these rolls are better than sex" and the waitress almost died from laughing so much! She brought him a couple extra "better than sex rolls" and we eat there each and every time we come to MB now. Just for the rolls ! Great week-end trip !

With nearly 20 years of Myrtle Beach golf travel behind us, there are countless events that remain memorable and contribute to our desire to return each year. The one that stands out occured at The Legends Heathland course. This is a wide open links-style course created by Tom Doak that is a treasure to play and has held up well over time. On the par 4 11th hole, 381 yd. slight dogleg right, our foursome hit moderately good drives dead center, all landing within yards of eachother. As we approached our drives, from out of the blue came a fox beelining for the landing area of our well-placed shots. The fox darted unfazed by our presence and grabed one of the balls from the fairway and proceeded to head right back into it's fox hole. What an unforgetable event. Tony

Four of us have been traveling to Myrtle Beach to play for over 10 years. In late February or early March we brave the elements and have a great time. It is hard to pick the most memorable moment as the most recent trip is always the best one, simply because we have been able to play great golf courses, enjoy good food and entertainment and revel in each others company. One experience stands out. We were playing Marsh Harbor (since closed) and came to a short par 3 over a pond. Each of us hit three shots into the pond and just laughed and laughed. We weren't happy with our golf, but so happy to be on our holiday.

we had our first annual north/south tournament at myrtle beach in 1993 most of us drove from orlando the rest drove down from ohio/mich. 3 out of 16 of us partied all night and while we were eating breakfast the rest of the group took off without us. we took a cab to the golf course but our clubs were backin one of the rooms so we took one of the cars back got our clubs went back out to the WITCH and played 9 holes. we did manage a couple hours sleep the second night but it is the ultimate guys trip destination.

As I had the pleasure of living in Myrtle Beach for 10 years from 1991 to 2001, there are many great memories floating in my head. Aside from still having several good friends to visit perodically, just two weeks ago; coincidentally. My favorite thought always goes back to my first and only to date, Hole in One at Belle Terre Golf Club on a 197 yard par 3 with my trusty 5 wood, a Titleist ball and my good friend Greg. Sadly, the course was removed the following year to make way for expansion of the Highway By-Pass system. I now dislike progress and stick with old fashioned ways as often as possible. Since moving back to Chicago in July of 2001 my very fortunate 12 trips back have always included several stops at Bummz on the Beach Cafe (located in the heart of Myrtle Beach) due to the Norm of Cheers like greeting I always receive from Wayland, Dora and Karen. Took my son-in-law Noah and his uncle Don for Noah's 30th birthday to Myrtle Beach. We stayed at Litchfield and played litchfield CC, Blackmoor, River Hills and Caladonia. We got rained out after 9 at Caladonia but it didn't dampen our good time. A few cigars, libations, comradarie and good food was had by all. Unfortunately, when we got back to the Northeast that March, uncle Don was diagnosed with brain cancer(young 51)and passed away 3 months later. We were glad we were able to share some good times with him doing what he really enjoyed, golfing.

On my first trip to Myrtle Beach we had a package for 4 nites in an ocean view efficiency, 4 rounds, and 4 buffet breakfasts for $89. We took out rain insurance for $5 a day and it rained one day so we got $100. After that my friend said that she would go anywhere with me because she made money on our trip.

THIS GOES BACK A FEW YEARS, PROBABLY LATE 90'S AFTER 36 HOLES OF GOLF AND DINNER, WE TOOK OUR RENTED LINCOLN TOWN CAR TO THE 2001 NIGHT CLUB. AT 2 AM WE CLOSED THE PLACE DOWN AND WENT OUT TO THE CAR. MAYBE JUST A LITTLE BIT ON THE "OVER THE LIMIT ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION" I JUMPED IN TO THE LINCOLN AND PULLED FORWARD AND FELT THE CAR RISE UP AND A TERIBLE SCREECHING. WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND FOUND THE FRONT OF THE CAR COMPLETELY ON TOP OF A BIG ROCK PILE. AND OF COURSE THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ANYWHERE, SO THE PHONE CALL WAS MADE TO THE FIRST TOWING SERVICE. HE SAID HE COULD BE THERE IN ABOUT 2 HOURS WITH A $150 MINIMUM. THAT DID NOT SOUND SO GOOD, SO CALLED THE SECOND TOW SERVICE AND HE CAME RIGHT OUT. THE TOW GUY LOOKED AT THE SITUATION, SHOOK HIS HEAD AND SAID THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROCKS WOULD BE TO DRAG IT OFF AND NO GUARANTEES ABOUT SHREDDING THE OIL PAN, EXHAUST SYSTEM ETC. DID NOT HAVE MUCH CHOICE SO WE TURNED HIM LOOSE TO DRAG IT OFF, AND BOY WAS THAT UGLY. FORTUNATELY NO MAJOR DAMAGE WAS DONE AND WE TURNED IN THE RENTAL LINCOLN VERY QUICKLY THE NEXT DAY AND GOT OUT OF THERE. EVIDENTLY I WAS NOT THE ONLY GUY WHO THIS HAS HAPPENED TO, AS TODAY 2001 STILL HAS THOSE ROCK PILES BUT NOW THE ARE ROPED OFF.

We have a core group of guys that go to Myrtle Beach every year in the Spring. The size of the group varies but the core group stays the same. After a practice round or two, we have a four day tournament. Our leader sets the last two day's foresomes up by score, but uses a theme for the first two days. It may be roommates, travel mates, etc. One year we had an odd number of players and three of us were named Gary. Of course, our leader had to have the final threesome be the "Gary's". As luck would have it, the course placed a walk-on in our foursome. I will never forget the look on the walk-on's face as we introduced ourselves to him. After the third Gary he was speechless. By the end of the round he still did not belive that we were not pulling his leg and kept referring to himself as "The Missing Gary".

One of the most memorable events that took place in Myrtle Beach was at Wicked Stick several years back. Our friend Marc, who has never had a hole in one, stepped up to a par 3 and proceed to put two in the water. In disgust, he threw a third ball on the ground without even using a tee and put it on the rolling green about thirty feet from the pin. As he turned his back to walk back to the cart, we yelled in amazement that the ball was taking the slope and headed towards the cup. He thought we were joking, so he didn't bother to turn around, until he heard our big screams when the ball went in. He came a running and asked us if we were going to give it(a hole in one)to him. We said sure we would... a hole in five. We laugh about it every time we go to Myrtle.

Our trip to Myrtle Beach last Thanksgiving was our last vacation before my oldest son David left to play for St. Francis College' golf team in September of this year. He entered the George Holliday Jr. Tournament and I don't even remember how he placed; what I do remember is waking up at dawn at the Breakers' Resort, standing on the balcony overlooking the ocean and David standing beside me, so excited about the tournament, hugging me and saying, "Thanks for bringing me here Mom." 17-year-old boys don't say a lot and when they do they're not very expressive so that is a moment I will treasure forever. After his first day at King's North course we joined David's father and his three siblings at the Golden Corral for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Then we posed in front of the fountains just down from The Breakers for our Christmas photo, thanks to a kind stranger passing by. We just had enough battery power for one shot but that's all we needed. Each one of us has a wide grin because we're so happy. It really was one of my favorite vacations ever which is a good thing because family vacations with the six of us are going to be few and far between now that they're growing up so fast...

For 30 years, the "Fat Guys" have traveled each fall to Myrtle from seven states across the country. The rules for membership are quqite simple. Your waistline must exceed your inseam by a minimum of six inches, although on occasion exceptions will be made for players with a fat wallet, uncontrollable slice, and little discretion. If you can't go 36 for four days straight, this group is not for you. This year there were 14 of us staying in Calabash. We played all the "Tiger" courses, Heather Glen, and the Legends. The golf was great, the laughs even better. We close the trip with an awards ceremony including a "Rules Committee", ""Horse's Ass", Where's the Crapper", and other not-to-be named awards. This years Waitress of the Year award went to the lunch waitress at the Legends who, when asked by a lascivious and well-qualified Fat Guy if she had a younger sister, appropriately responded without missing a beat, "no, but I have a gay brother." Second place went to all the waitresses at Mikes in Little River. Many thanks to the Myrtle Beach Golf Desk for making the trip easy-to-arrange and no hassle all around.

I have many stories for the many trips we have taken, but by far the best memory was the first trip we took with two of my daughters and their husbands. Every day we went out golfing and the three guys played together and the three girls played together. Every day the guys would go off first and we followed because we were slower. Well, every day we had to wait for them to finish because we found out later that at each hole that a beverage cart came through, they would stop and have their picture taken with the cart girls. This was at every course we played. We have many pictures of the guys and the cart girls at these courses. At one of the courses, we all were waiting at the tee box for the guys to start. Well, one of my son-in-laws produced an exploding golf ball and my husband, who was none the wiser, hit it and it just blew apart. We laugh about it yet today. On the same hole, my one son-in-law hit his brand new very expensive driver (and he is a powerful hitter) and the head came off when he struck the ball. Both the ball and the head of the club went the same distance. Again, we still laugh about it today but it set the play at the course for the rest of the day. Each afternoon we would come back to the hotel, lounge in the pool, and drink at poolside. It was one of the best golf vacations I had. I don't think I have laughed as hard as I did that week in years.

For the past 10 years a few of us have gotten together once a year to golf. In 2007 we decided to make an official pilgrimage to Myrtle Beach to celebrate our 50th birthdays. This past September we completed our 2nd trip and the 3rd is already booked for 2009. 7 or 8 of us are Fraternity Brothers from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. The fact is we are all still tight after 25 years and that we can all get together for this trip makes it even more special. In the past 2 years we have played 8 different courses and eaten at a wide variety of restaurants. Myrtle offers everything a group of 8 hackers needs. A few of us fly in from the New York City area. The plane is always packed with golfers. Many of them are also on their annual guys trips. Some groups are bigger than ours. Some groups are more organized, including bound color itineraries passed out by the stewardess. But one thing I know for certain, every group will have a great time. For us and for all those other groups out there, I hope this is a tradition that never ends.

This year was our first to Myrtle. I flew from California and my brother drove from Philadelphia. We played 6 rounds in four days and had a great time. We played Litchfield, TPC, Aberdeen, Arcadian Shores and Myrtlewood. We stayed at the Grande Shores on the north end and found it to be convenient to all courses. The Carolina Roadhouse were we ate the first night was great but the Great American Steak and Buffet company saw us twice! A full buffet with your own cooked to order steak if you desire. My brother missed an Ace by 8 inches and I missed one by three strokes. It was such a memorable time and a great bargain. I think we could make a habit of this.

April 2006, the first time I ever went to Myrtle Beach to take a golf vacation. One of my good friends invited me to go with him. He is part of a group of golfers that make semi-annual trips to Myrtle Beach. All the players (about 52) were divided into A, B, C, and D players. I was an "A" player but not very confident I could compete with the others in my flight. Well we had 5 courses to play that week. I started horribly. Think my "B" player beat me twice. Then we came to the last day which was a scramble format. I was still the "A" player but they gave me two "C" players with a "D". Thought our chances weren't too good. But we still made the bets with all the other teams. We were the last to go off. Didn't start too well, then we got hot! Birdie after birdie,chip in from the front bunker, long putt for eagle, you name it, we did it except no bogeys. Came into the pro shop and everyone was waiting, should have seen their faces when I told them our score. Everyone of them had to pay us off! Great feeling to leave your first trip to Myrtle Beach a winner.

I first went to Mrytle beach after hearing about it from my buddy who grew up in NC and we went back in 1998 and played the great golf courses and went back the following year and met two ladies from Rachel's who after hours became a separate story for only male viewers and every year I want to go back and find them and give them another wonderful evening of pleasure and delight but I got married so I can't tell the wife this is why I want to go on a golf trip with mu buddies to Mrytle. I will always be fond of Mrytle for this reason and to this day my buddies still talk about the two beauties who were screaming for mercy.

About 15 years ago I had planned a trip down to Myrtle Beach with my wife and two other couples. At the last minute the other two couples backed out leaving just my wife and I. We decided to go down by ourselves, figuring that I would get paired up with someone and I would make the most of it. On the first day I was slotted into a group of 7. All seven were family and not just any family. They were four generation New York city police officers. I had so much fun golfing with them, probably more fun than I would have had with the two other couple who were supposed to go. My wife and I had made friends that will last a lifetime.

My best memory is every year since 1994 -in spring of 1994 I had played in 2 best ball tournaments 5 clubs and a pair of tennis shoes. My so called friends told me I was ready for Myrtle Beach. (They Lied)so off we go and my 1st 18 holes of golf was at Marsh Harbour. I lost 11 golf balls on #17 and fell in love with the game. It started an annual trip in Nov. with 24 to 32 of us from Maryland, Virginia and Texas. We just got back 2 weeks ago. Playing Rivers Edge ,Farmstead, The Witch, Founders Club (WOW), Glen Dornoch, and Panthers Run. They were all great. We have played over 70 different course's. I don't think anyone plays by all the rules (ever) but that makes the conversations driving home very interesting. We didn't lose anyone this year. The Bridges at the Witch, drive in sand traps at Founders Club, Tree in the middle of #15 at Glen Dornoch, Par5 #9 at Rivers Edge, Par 6 at Farmstead and the wind on #18 at Panthers Run and the fun after golf makes for a much needed rest when we get home and start planning for next year. We have been going to Myrtle for over 15 years and the most memorable moment was when there was 32 of us. We were staying at Bay Tree on the 18th hole having a great homemade spaghetti dinner and drinking all day when two of my friend decided to play the 18th hole for a $100. The first friend hit and skulled it about 100 yards from the green. The other guy proceeded to hit when he shanked it into a condo window.They both proceeded to run like 4 year olds back into the condo only to have the group lock them out and have 30 guys laughing the a%%% off for 20 minutes.

It was the early 90's and 8 Canadians drove down to Myrtle Beach on a one week package. The first week of February can be cold, but we never expected snow...we were playing Myrtlewood on the back nine, I had a chance to brake 80 with 3 holes to play, a blizzard started, 6 of the guys headed for the 19th, but my partner and I played threw, by the 18th the green was totally covered and when I putted for my one putt par for 79 the ball collected snow and fell on its side about 6 feet short. Then all I heard was laughter from the other 6 drunks watching. Great time, we are all returned this winter, but March 1st.

My friend and I were down for a week a 20 guys. We opted to play an extra round and went to a place along the Waterway and had to take the Gondola over and he is scared of heights. Well we made it over and it took a coulpe of holes for him to get his legs back. Upon completing the round he forgot about the ride and we were just about to the other side and he sees his clubs going over the back. I thought he was going to jump out after them on the spot. So much for being afraid of heights Just like the TV commercial.

The final hole for the day, at a course whose name I don't remember, we were playing as a threesome and my two friends and I hit our drives. As usual, I was first to hit and put my shot on the green. Riding by myself, I drove around the pond in front of the green to watch the others hit their shots. My friend Terry had a tricky shot to miss a tree on the right side of the green. He called up to me "WATCH THIS MOONEY!!" and proceded to hit the tree and dunk it into the pond. Dropping another ball, he again called "WATCH THIS MOONEY!!". Again hitting the tree and into the water. Dropping another ball, he again called "WATCH THIS MOONEY!!". Again hitting the tree and into the water. Finally the fourth "WATCH THIS MOONEY!!" shot he made it to the green. To this day anytime he has a tricky or nearly impossible shot I hear "WATCH THIS MOONEY". Usually followed by the sound of a ball bounceng off a tree and laughter!

It was a few months after an emergency bypass that my brother-in-law invited me to go along with he and his wife to Myrtle Beach for a week. We brought our clubs and played every other day. Our favorite course was Waterway Hills. The views were great and the golf course was terrific. He played his usual solid game and I stunk. It didn't matter because we had so much fun, laughing and joking and oh by the way, playing golf. I went home feeling better than I had since the operation and grateful to the best brother-in-law and sister-in-law anyone could have.

I'm fortunate enough to travel to Myrtle Beach every spring with a group of 16-20 guys. We love playing the vast variety of course on the "Grand Strand". One year we had early tee times on the River Hills course in North Myrtle Beach but woke up to stormy skies. I checked the radar images on the computer which showed a narrow band of storms situated right over the north end where we were playing. Sure enough we arrived at the course in a deluge and had to cancel play. I was bound and determined to play some golf as it was our last day there. I grabbed our foursome to headed south alee from the storms. While driving away from the front we called for a back up tee time. The only course and time available was in 20 short minutes at the River Club in Pawley's Plantation clearly on the other end of Myrtle Beach. We made the tee time by the skin of our teeth and went right to the first tee box upon our arrival. Unfortunately, the skies darkened and storms threatened just as we set out. By the time we were on the 2nd tee the horn sounded to clear the course. A violent storm came through suddenly while we were waiting it out in the club house. Unbeknowst to me, the remaining 3 in our group were plotting a mutiny while I was in line for some food. I was later told that they were content to join the rest of our group for a late breakfast. While I was returning to the table the pro announce that we could resume play. I reached the others and said "come on boys let's hit it"! They followed me to the carts without protest like little ducklings waddling behind their mother. We had a wonderful rest of the round without interruption by the weather. I was only told long after the day of the unsuccessful mutiny hatched against me and then foiled by my desire to play!

Being new to the game of golf I only have one Myrtle Beach golf memory. My father-in-law (Ronnie Barnard) was battling lung cancer and my wife and sister-in-law planned a fall break trip to Myrtle Beach for him to have one last vacation with his three grandchildren. He insisted I take his clubs with us knowing he was in no shape to play. I wasn't going to bring up playing because I knew the pain he was in. On the third day of our vacation he ask me to get us a tee time somewhere. So I pulled out the Myrtle Beach golf book from the hotel and called several course's and finally got a tee time at Waterway Hills. We had a great time taking about things that had happened in his life,his daughter(Teresa) and grandson (Hunter)he is so proud of all his grandkids-we played like crap. Ronnie died November 25,2008 but I will always remember how happy he was to get to swing those clubs one last time. Love ya Ronnie.

Every couple of days after some great golf, I would get my grandson ( Jack age 4) and we would go over to the putting greens and driving range and he loved it. And like all golfers after some strenuous excercise my grandson and I headed over to Hooters for some food and drinks. Never mentioned it to the family but later that day going out for supper as we drove by Hooters my Grandson said look Pappa , Hooo hooo ters. the restaurant we went to. (Forgot he was just learning his words. ) Well the cats out of the bag and I had to explain our golfers ritual. the whole family laughed. Can,t keep a secret. Eveyone was great at Hooters and Jack was a big hit. Great memories

Hi I have been going to Myrtle Beach for 23 years and I have lots of stories. Playing The Dunes golf club, one of guys got a hole in one. Bert Peacock was his name. Playing the same course I hit number 13 the big dogleg in two. Stayed at some great places and met a lot of nice people. I would remend going to Myrtle Beach anytime. I find today that it is getting very commercial. And some of the great courses are no longer there. Like Marsh Harbour what a great place it was. Lots of good food and fun.

We have been to MB 16 straight years, never have we had a bad time. We have missed very few rounds for weather, no emergency room trips, great food and great golf. Place for dinner is picked by a different guy each night. One of the guys had been down in the spring and he began telling us that he had found a place with excellent food and service and unique entertainment. Four months we searched the internet trying to find what he was getting us into. Sept arrived and the third night it is his pick off we go to Joe's steak house or some such, we walk in out to the screened porch when JT says there is the entertainment guys as he points to the yard where there are three raccoons eating in a bird feeder. At least there was no cover charge nor tipping the entertainment.

When I tell fellow golfers, at home, about this event and all of the fun it is to meet and compete with people from around the world. Brookgreen Gardens: Of course we went to Myrtle Beach to play golf, but what of the time left after the rounds? We suggest Brookgreen Gardens (Myrtle Beach South, off Highway 17) as a great place to visit. The history of the plantation, the work accomplished over the years and the quiet solitude of the scenes make this memorable. There are statues galore set in wonderful areas with descriptions worth reading to pass hours of enjoyment. Add to this a live zoo area and chances to see some of the local wildlife up close make this a stop to remember. You'll likely not have time enough to see all that you'd want to the first visit, so thoughtfully, the plantation's tickets are still good for six more days. Unfortunately for us, we were leaving one day before the "Nights of a Thousand Candles" was to open. This is only one of the many special events put on each year depending on seasons and we'll be sure to check their web site before visiting again. www.brookgreen.org will give us all the information we need. We call him the Prince...not because of his attitude or demeanor, but because he always, and I mean always, dresses to kill. I think the nickname actually derived from the longer "Prince of Primp"; due to the length of time it required for him to get ready in the morning. One brisk December day about 12 years ago, I was playing Pawley's Plantation with the Prince, Gooch, and Dr. 2th. The 17th at Pawley's is a penninsula green, almost completely surrounded by marsh, marsh grass and mud. Three of us were standing on the green while Dr 2th was making his chip from off to the right. 2th hit a semi-Vin Scully, which scooted across the green and headed for the marsh. The Prince was the closest to the path of the ball and after yelling, "I'll get it Doc." his cleats caught on the pressure treated top board at green's edge. Prince did a complete sumersault and landed on his back, mercifully cushioned by a large stand of marsh grass, about eight feet down! He emerged looking very un-prince-like to face three golfers,now knowing he was okay, nearly wetting themselves and laughing uncontrollably. We made many memorable trips to Myrtle Beach over the years, but the sight of the Prince emerging from the marsh, covered in mud, remains my most vivid memory.

I was invited by my son-in-law to join his family for my first trip to Myrtle Beach. The first day we were greeted by a torrential rain storm. We were told that the course was not closed and we had to play. I put on my golf shoes and the counter was folded against my left heel. we played nine holes and looke3d like drowned rats. At this point we gave up. I developed a blister on my heel and hobbled around for the next four days but really enjoyed the golf and company. I was looking forward to many more years but unfortunatly my great son-in-law got cancer and died.

My buddy Jim and I had talked about a golf trip for years, before we finally got off the pot and actually took one. We planned to drive from Toronto all the way without stopping. My van only had an am/fm radio, so Jim borrowed his dad's boom box, hooked it up to the cigarette lighter so we could play cd's on the way. We took turns driving, and navigating while manning the boom box. By listening to the tunes, and singing along as we went, we made it all the way without falling asleep. Sunday, our first day it was raining cats and dogs, but we tried to get our round in, finally stopping after 9 holes with a rain check for the other 9. As the week went on the weather improved, and we had a great time. Lichtfield CC, Willbrook Plantation and Long Bay were three of our favorites. On the last day, we played our rain check at Willbrook Plantation, and on the 5th hole, my tee shot landed about 20 feet from an aligator. Needless to say, I let him have the ball and dropped another one to finish the hole. We've been back twice since then, and I can't wait for my next trip to the Grand Strand!

Once in a great while everything aligns perfectly and makes for the perfect trip! I was working a job I hated for a guy I wanted to strangle. After looking for a new job for about 6 months, I finally landed a great new job. I decided to take a week off in between jobs. As it so happened, my neighbor and golfing buddy had a landscaping business that was winding down for the fall. We did some research (before the days of the internet) and found a package for 3 nights and 4 rounds of golf in Myrtle Beach. We had dozens of courses to choose from. It was mid October and the weather was perfect for golfing. We had a great time golfing in the morning and afternoon and hitting the town at night. It was a great way to blow off some pent up steam from a crappy job, have some fun and good times and get mentally cleared for my new job!

I have been going to Myrtle Beach at least once a year for 15-20 years with my buddies. One year we took a new guy with us. He was called Big Mike, because he is about 6'3" & 280 lbs. I had warned him that he might see some gators down here. And that they are very quick, but only in a straight line. They are so low to the ground that if they are chasing you, you should change directions very quickly, in that they cannot do that. Well on one course we came upon a 10-12' gator sunning himself on the shore of a pond in front of the green. Big Mike, who pretends he is very brave, takes his putter and walks very slowly up to the gator. He proceeds to hit the ground with the putter in front of the gator, oh, about 15 feet away. Nothing happened. So he slowly gets to about 10 feet and repeats with the putter banging. Nothing. He gets to about 5 or 6 feet and does the same thing. Still nothing. So he turns his back, grins at us and starts to walk away. Another guy who was with me and a great comedian, all of a sudden yells "Holy Sh....., and starts to run a couple of steps. Big Mike gets this strange look on his face and without turning around, starts to zig zag up towards the green, over the green, jumps into the golf cart and drives away. This other guy and myself lost ourself in laughter the rest of the day. Any little thing of a reminder of Big Mike, gators or what happened would trigger another episode of side holding laughter. T'was the best joke I have ever been part of. Gary Lukken

My family and I have been playing Mrytle Beach courses for over 30 years, and my most memorable golf experience is with my oldest son, Stephen, who about 16 at the time- 9 years ago. We were playing the MB National King's Course, and were about to tee off on what I remember is #6, "The Gambler". I was leading him by a couple of strokes, and feeling pretty good about myself. He proceeds to hit a 270 yard drive down the left center to shorten the hole into a 2 shotter, knocks it on in 2, and 2 putts for birdie. His great drive so rattled me that I put away my driver and tried to play safe by hitting a 5 wood.Needless to say, I pushed it into the water and ended up with a 10! He never let me forget it, and of course beat me soundly. I never should have taught that boy to play!

For nine years, myself and three buddies have made an annual pilgrimmage to Myrlte Beach from Bucks Cunty, PA. and Mercer County, NJ. We always go in the middle of January to take advantage of the incredible deals and the MLK extended Holiday. Of course this means playing through frost delays and sometimes frozen water hazzards. We always try to play different courses and so far I have collected 25 logo balls from MB. Half the fun is the road trip itself which is a 12 hour overnight drive without stopping. Once we get to MB we eat at a Shoney's and by 10:00 are teeing it up. So far this may not seem so exciting but you must know who one of our playing partners is. His name is Roger and we are positive that he is the guy that the character "Kraemer" from the TV show "Seinfeld" was patterned after. Just imagine being cooped up in a car for 12 hours with "Kraemer" and then playing 36 holes of golf with him, all in the same day. The laughs never end. Among some of Roger's memorable events have been sleep walking on I-95, getting in the wrong golf cart with the wrong foursome, getting off the wrong floor of an elevator and staying in the wrong room, hitting a tee shot on the first hole at the Legends that went for negative yardage, locking the keys in the SUV while in North Carolina, telling waitresses he really is "Kraemer" so he would get better service, and being banned from Shoney's breakfast buffet for eating too much. The guy is a blast and we love him but of course we don't let him drive. Our road trips to MB have been so great that I just bought property in MB and will soon be moving there. Although this means the road trips will come to an end for me, I am sure our home will come equipped with a revolving door for our buddies from Pennsy and Jersey to come and play.

It was the beginning of April 2006. I drove to Myrtle Beach by myself and friends were going to meet me there a few days later. I was jonesin' for something golf after driving 11 hours and unpacking a carload up and down 2 flights of stairs. I got a newspaper and saw there was a golf event at the Legends on Saturday. I went, by myself, and took part in all of the activities. There was a putting contest, long drive, all kind of demos, music, beer, the works. I entered every contest they had! 2 days later, I received a phone call that I had won a spot to play in the Hootie and the Blowfish Monday After the Masters golf tournament. I was in shock. I didn't write anything down, and later had to call the nice man back from Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, who sponsored the event. Sure enough, I got to play!! I got to meet all the great guys from Hootie and the Blowfish, I played with a wonderful golfer, Troy Matteson. I also got to play with Drew and Ken from Sister Hazel! I had the best time of my life! Oh and did I tell you, I got to meet and get my picture with ARNOLD PALMER! If it wasn't enough that I got to play, I got a lot of great gifts, met John Daly, and got to go to the big bash afterwards. It was a concert with alot of great musicians, and food and booze. I get excited just remembering and talking about it. It was, by far, the BEST day of my life!

Last year at the tender age of 63 I went o Myrtle for the World Am. Championship for the first time. Played the Founders Club, Aberdine, Legends and Panther run. The courses were outstanding, and the service was great. Treated us just as if we were Playing a Pro-Am. The facilities at the Convention Center were outstanding. Although I had never played on Bermuda grass before, I still had a great time. Made some new friends, and enjoyed the ocean and the golf courses. Although we caught the tail end of the hurricane, The courses were kept in playable shape. Congrats to the course personnel. and all the people who ran the tournament. We will be back again next year.

Family vacation in 1997, my sons were 8 and 11. we golfed everyday and were always partnered with a single. Boys had to take turns riding with the "stranger". my youngest son mark was to ride with an older gentleman from New York who spent the first couple holes in a bad mood because he had been stuck with the three of us. after a few holes he shut up, he finally opened his eyes. my son was beating him and kept it up to beat him by 4 strokes for 18, my son went on to play golf in high school and both my sons still love golf and myrtle beach.

Any time I hear the words Myrtle Beach , it finds a way to forget what is happening in the turmoil of the economy and World situations. I first started coming to M.B. in 1974 when my son was two years old . As soon as he was golf ready , we entered the Summer Family Golf tournaments for eight, straight years( 2000- 2008). When we thought we were ready , it was off to the Father and Son tournament. The first try was a disaster, but it served as a positive direction for the next time.Well, the next time we won our division . I can still remember from (2005) the feeling that has traveled through my mind to recollect the ultimate experience. I was never more proud to stand beside him on the victory platform . Until , he had his own son , and with that thought , nothing could be better to play together. Even though my grandson is almost (5), it would be a dream come true. WE have made Family trips that included the whole M.B. experience, but this potential memory is something that must be the final act to a lifetime of golf and family. So, when I hear Myrtle Beach , it gives me hope , longevity and a feeling that each day is a blessing ; one that can't wait to be realized .

Four of us decided to drive to Mytle Beach from Columbus, OH and play 18 holes in the morning and 18 holes in the afternoon for 3 straight days. We reserved all our courses, brushed off the snow from our car and were on our way. After 2 slow downs due to accidents, 1 speeding ticket and a blown radiator, we were concerned the trip would not be worth it. When we got to the first course, our whole attitude changed. Each course was more spectacular then the last. We did loose some balls to a big dog that ran out onto one of the courses (how do you score that?) and almost didn't make it through the third day due to pure exhaustion but we did it. And we all agreeded we would do it again ... if we were 15 years younger.

16 years in a row the week befors Thanksgiving I have gone to Myrtle Beach with agroup that has been going 24 years and ounting. We play seven days of golf on all A courses picked by the group the year before. The only tradition is we play Caledonia the last day we are there, we have been doing this for eight years. There is only one original from the first year in the group, he now lives in myrtle beach on blackmoor. He and his wife organize the tri every year. One quick note.i buya logo ball at every course we play and i put the score i sot on the back. these balls are in order from saturday to friday for all of my 16 years. If asked which course did we play in 1999 on Wed. I have the answer.

One year me and 2 friends came down around January to play golf. It was so cold it was like hitting a rock with a stick! I was hitting my 2nd shot, when I duffed the ball; Right into a flock of geese. that was a real bad shot not only did I get a birdie the hard way, but the birdie tried to get me when I went to get my ball. Needless to say that was one ball that the birds got to keep! So as we finished the round,we all felt frozen, and walked that way also. The we passed 2 gentlemen that were is sweaters and were talking how nice it was. I geuss they were from Canada! All I could say way good luck and watch out for the birdies!

My first day there was un-eventful but the next day on the first tee there was so much fog you couldn't see the ball. Eventually the fog cleared and then the wind started to blow, a better description was howl. On the 6th hole i had approximately 140 yards to the green with a small ridge in front of me. I grabbed my 6 iron and proceeded to hit the ball solidly into the wind. As i watched the ball go up into the air i could see it being blown back toward me, eventually landing 20 yards behind me. The other guys in the foursome never let me forget it the rest of the week. I still get teased about it 'til this day.

Me and a friend of mine went to Myrtle Beach. We flew into Charlotte NC and then rented a car to drive to Myrtle Beach. We were playing The world Tour of Golf course (if you play any course in Myrtle Beach you have to play that one). We were playing the 16th hole which is one from Augusta. A par 3 hole. I hit my ball on the left side just a little off the green and it sloped down toward the water. I tried to hit the ball from the severe slope and miss hit it and it startes to roll toward the water so I reached back to stop it and fell backwards waste high into the water. I took my shoes off and wringed out my socks, put my shoes back on and finished the course. When we finished my fried asked me if I wanted to go back to the place we were staying. I thought that was a very stupid Question. Of course, I had to change clothes.We got to Murtle Beach 2 days before 911 happened. The World Trade Centers fell!

In January 2004 I made my first road trip to Myrtle Beach as a fill in with a group of guys that had been making the trip at the same time for the past 8 years. There were 24 people in the group and we play a stableford point system with a blind draw after the round to determine the winners. Our first day we played Rivers Edge and I was not having a good round until we got to the 9th hole a par 5 that stuck a pitching wedge inches from the hole and made a birdie. After a par on the 10th hole we went to the 11th, another par 5 with a peninsula green. I hit a good drive and left myself 210 yards. I went for the green and it hit just above the water and bounced up onto the green lees than two feet from the hole. I tapped in fro eagle and went on to score a win for the day. We have now changed our trip to February to have a little warmer weather but I have returned every year since with this group and again in the summer for a beach vaction. Can't wait for February.

I was on my first trip to Myrtle Beach. We got out of the car and went right to the first tee. On the 2nd hole I hit my drive into a marshy area,(sign saying watch for gators) I could see the ball sitting right next to a log. The log moved a little, I think, I did not even try to get the ball at this point. It has been the subject of many a story at the 19th hole.

I set a goal for myself to break 100 and what better place to do it than in Myrle Beach. The week was going well, but it was the last day and I hadn't broken 100 yet. We were playing at Myrtle Beach National, the West Course. I was playing well and it appeared I would finally reach my goal. Everyone was supportive and encouraging. I teed the ball on the 11th 384 par 4 hole. I was addressing the ball when one of my "friends", wanted to take a picture for posterity. The picture was taken and I returned to my quest. I addressed the ball and started my back swing, confident that this drive would help me reach my goal. I swung and the next thing I knew I was covered with powder, a ringing in my ears along with the sounds of laughter and the chance to break 100 going down the drain. You guessed it, my "friends" had replaced my ball with an exploding one. The picture taking was a ruse and the swap took pace while it was being taken. Needless to say, my game went downhill from that point and I did not break 100.

My first trip was probably my favorite because it was totally spontaneous. I didn't plan on going and I knew nothing about myrtle beach. I made three calls to the area and the Sea Mist was one of the two who called back. I booked with them, threw my stuff together and hopped in the truck. ( I didn't even know how to get there.) It rained the whole way down, but I got reassurance when the temp hit 60 as I got below Washington DC. I arrived around three AM. I couldn't find the hotel, so I slept in the truck for an hour and searched again. I finally found it and got squared away. I was totally blown away by the sight of Myrtle Beach with all the hotels and golf courses. It was totally cool. The weather was great. (it was December). Some days I played all day as a single. Some days I made new friends. I usually played at least 36 holes. I think my favorite day was at Indigo Creek where I played almost 72 holes in one day . The cart died and I had to walk in.( Playing as I walked, of course.) I didn't care. I was having so much fun. After all I was playing golf. Right

My brother who has never golfed in his life,decides that he should start by going to myrtlebeach on our golf vacation!!Just newly married,his wife decides he can indeed go,with one condition"he must go for a swim in the ocean & bring back some seashells"!!He readily agrees not realizing "it's FEBUARY" so away we go for 5 days...first day the 3 of us headout to WATERWAY HILLS I beleive it was and we get asked if we would mind if a 4th could join us?? of course he can we reply..so off we go,my brother who has never golfed, is having devil of a time making any contact with the ball so naturally after having drank about 6 beers already he starts gettin frustrated and starts to swear something awfull every time he misses the ball!!The fellow who joined us is on my cart and we are exchanging pleasant conversation,about where we are from and such,so after about 11/12 holes of talk and listening to DOUG swear a blue streak I turn to my partner and ask,"so where are you from and what do you do???"His reply floored me"I'm from CONWAY, just outside of the strnd area and I'M a BAPTIST MINISTER" well you have never seen somebody waving and such trying to alert someone of the obviously embaressing situation!!This is only the begining,on the last day about 11pm at night my brother suddenly remembers his promise to his wife,so he excuses himself for some air and goes out!!about 30 min. later there's a knock at the door and it's "DOUG" sans clothing,just his underwear on,everything else is in his arms..he's accompanied by, you guessed it the hotel "SECURITY GUARD" who proceeds to tell us that he caught him stripped down and running like crazy for the room and that he is being arrested for indecent exposure!!Needless to say we are stunned about this,about 5 min later"DOUG&THE SECURITY GUARD"breakout laughing!!seems like he gave the guy a story about his wife being really sick and being at home and the conditional PROMISE of the swim!!Without reservation this is the BEST TIME,that I have ever had in "STRANDAREA" to this very day"DOUG still has those boxers with the SEA MIST SECURITY GUARDS SIGNATURE ON THEM!! NOW THATS SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY

Been going to Myrtle Beach for over 20 years, every trip has been memorable. A few years back we were down for a long MLK weekend. Played Wicked Stick on Friday, 36 on Saturday (Glen Dornoch & Heather Glen)followed by a little adult entertainment, a great dinner at Carolina Roadhouse, and a long night of partying. Barely made our tee time at Tidewater the next morning all hung over. I played the most amazing round of golf, shooting a couple over par on one of the best courses on the Strand. There is something about the Beach, it truly is a golfer's paradise!

My Father, Brother and I go to Myrtle Beach every year and really enjoy our time together there. Back in 2006 we played Caledonia our last day there. My Father was 74 years old and was not the golfer he once was so he naturally struggled and would rarely beat us in a round of play. We were playing the 18th hole and my Father was the only one who made the green in regulation. I went in the Sand and my Brother went in the trees on the approach. My Dad ended up makeing Par while I got a Bogey and my Brother Double Bogeyed. It was the only hole he won that day. It was also the last time we played in Myrtle Beach together since he was diagnosed 3 months later with Leukemia and passed away 3 months after that. We will always cherish my Dad's final hole as a Great memory. I have a 24x36 photo of the 18th hole on my wall and every time I look at it I think of my Dad.

I have had 3 trips to Myrtle Beach so far, and I guess this last one would be the most memorable. Arriving once again at the beautiful Brunswick Plantation, but with misgivings due to our son's recent diagnosis with a brain tumour. With his support, we decided I should keep the reservation, as the MRI was scheduled for after my return. We were to play all the Big Cats, as well as Pearl East and Farmstead. I got all 27 in at Brunswick as well, and almost achieved my goal of all rounds in the 90's or better. On the last day, a 9 on the first par 3 of Lion's Paw effectively took me out of the trip championship, leading to a 53 on the front 9. Then I remembered Scot, and how he never quit in either of his racing championships, tied going into the last kart race, and his rival having a race in hand in his F2000 series win. I put together 9 holes matching my personal best at a favourite course at home, (B,P,P,P,D,D,P,P,P = 39) on a track I had not seen until that day. I dedicate my 3rd overall in the group results to Scot. I hope he can continue to finish strong after his planned surgery in the spring.

On Oct.3rd.1999 I was playing Bay Tree plantation (gold) with three friends. We had just played a par 3 where someone was collecting funds for some organisation. After we left that hole one of my friends was very vocal that these people should not be allowed on golf courses. He hadn't stopped this rant until we came to the next par 3. No one paid at this hole. You can guess the rest. I holed out on a 147yd. hole with a 8 iron. The prize a new set of clubs. I received a plaque from the club which hangs on my rec.room wall.

This year we played the TPC course and I was taking pictures of the alligator at the other end of the pond. We got real close to the edge of the water to take shots of the gator. After we started walking to our first shot, we turned around and thought the alligator got into the water and swam to where we were just standing. Then we realized that it was ANTOHER alligator that was there the whole time, out of sight, right where we were standing. Any closer and we would have become Gator Bait...

my brother-in-laws and i were playing barefoot davis love course. woke up the morning of our time and proceeded to our cars and could not see two feet in front of us. by the time we got to barefoot the words "pea soup" came to mind. lord, we could not literally see the high beams off the front of the car. we checked in at the gate and the security guard wished us luck. proceeded to the course and the first words out of my mouth were "we must be bleeping crazy". The starter assured us that we could go out and i said "to where?" the fog was so intense that it looked like one of those sherlock holmes movies. but the true golfers in us took over and away to the first tee we went. hit out first shots into nowhere and got into the carts and drove down the course. now, looking for a needle in a haystack comes to mind but, lo and behold, one ball and then another and further the other two. all were sitting pretty much dead center. we were astounded that we could even see and find them but we had no idea where the green was. so four more blind shots and we found just two of them as we went scouring around looking. putted out and went off to finish the next 17 holes (the first four all in fog) and we sat down afterwards for a beverage and wondered how we even found those fist tee shots at all

I'm NOT a golfer, BUT I've caddy.'d for my Dad PLENTY of times, & a few of those times were @ Myrtle Beach, on business trips & vacations. There was a 3-4 dy. tournament around the time Hurricane Floyd was supposed to hit the Carolinas. Dad & his foursome + me, traveled to 4 different courses bet. N. & S. Carolina. One of the courses was built atop a swamp ( which was underwater the dy. after Floyd hit Myrtle Beach ), BUT the course that made the DEEPEST impression was in Pearl?, N. Carolina, where the tee markers were Conch Shells !!!! Only downside of THAT trip was the heat / Hurricane Floyd cancelling the last dy. of play ( One HUGE blow that lasted all night, & that last dy. of play> It was sunny out !!!!) / & the shell tee=d markered golf course didn't allow caddys to ride on the carts. It was HOT / MUGGY/ & the course ( Tho' beautiful ) was LONG & HARD walking. BUT, each time I've gone w/ my Dad to Myrtle Beach, S. Carolina, I've had a SWELL time !!!! Lesley G.

My wife and I decide to take a few days in Mytrle Beach following a conference I attened in D.C. We scheduled golf at some courses in the area and each course set us up with other golfers. One day we went to the Heritage Club and the nice folks there introduced us to two men who were to make up our foursome. We had a great time with these two men who turned out to be doctors on vacation. The doctor's wives did not play golf so there was just the two of them. On the 13th. hole a par three 175 yards from the white tees I hit a ball over the water and we all watched it go in for a hole in one my first and only. We did not have a camara with us but our new friend did and they - as excited as we were - took several picture and promised to send us some which they did. After the round, I said meet us in the lounge for lunch and a drink on me. We had a nice lunch, a drink, and great fun talking about the day and the hole in one. Both of these men kept saying they could not wait to get home and tell their friends about having seen a hole in one. They got up from the table and said they had to meet their wives soon and went on their way. I called the server over and asked for the check and she said there was none as the two gentlemen had paid it on the way out and said to tell us congratualtions and thank you for a day they enjoyed.

Afew years back , eight of us ventured to MYRTLE beach. We had a GREAT ITME . However , when one of our buddies was out, his girl friend called . Well, one of the other guys who loves to play pranks , answered the phone . He said he was busy in the shower with another lady. As you can imagine it got nasty when his lady finally got him on the phone. Well a $1000.00 later , spent at VICTORIA SECRET, got him out of the DOGHOUSE. We still razz him today. In April 2007, my buddy and I werte dropped off at LaGuardia Airport in NY by my wife and sister-in-law to get on our scheduled 9:40 AM flight to Myrtle Beach. It was a Friday and we were flying down to meet with 14 other guys to play Saturday through Tuesday golf on different courses each year. This was an increase of 3 new golfers from the previous year, so we were looking forward to a great weekend of golf. When we arrived at the airport, we saw that the flight had been delayed an hour. This wasn't a problem. We sat down and waited. While waiting a fellow asked if he could sit with us. We told him it was no problem. He started telling us about what a great golf weekend he was going to have with a group of guys in Myrtle Beach. As a matter of fact some of his buddies had gone down a day early and were already playing that Friday morning. He said he couldn't make it due to work commitments. Well, we spent the next few hours talking about golf and kept asking ourselves and others what was holding up the flight from boarding. The airline kept telling us it was a mechanical problem. At about 4:00 PM, the airline announced that the flight was cancelled, because the plane had problems and they did not have another plane available. They said that we might be able to get on a flight the next night, Saturday, but there were only a few extra seats open on it. This did not sound very good. My buddy and I went to the baggage claim area to get our luggage and clubs. We were waiting for them to come out when we saw the fella we had been talking to upstairs and asked him what he was going to do. He said that he had made arrangements to rent a car and was driving down to Myrtle Beach from the airport and planned on flying back on Tuesday as he had already scheduled his flight home. I had called my wife to pick us up at the airport, but there was no answer at our house, so I tried her cell phone. There was still no answer. I then tried my sister-in-laws cell phone. She did answer and got my wife, who had been sleeping. My wife picked us up and drove us back to my house, where we loaded our suitcases and golf clubs into my buddy's car, and we left about 6:30 PM on our trip to Myrtle Beach. We did not want to miss our 8:30 AM tee time on Saturday with the others. We arrived in Myrtle Beach at the condo at 7:00 Am that we were staying in and took our luggage up to the condo, quickly showered, changed our clothes and went to the golf course. We got there around 8:00 AM and were telling one of our buddies about our eventfull day before and the trip down, when all of a sudden another one of the boys introduces us to a new member of the group, who had come down for the first time. Don't you know it was the guy we meet at the LaGuardia Airport the day before. He and we were both a little shocked and surprised. Needless to say that the weekend turned out fine. The golf was great as usual and the meeting of old and new friends is always great. We look forward to meeting additonal new friends every year. In the spring of 2009, we will be going down with 20 guys this year. Word is spreading. Of course, we do not chance on flying anymore. We just get up early on Friday and drive down. The scheduled daylight drive is much nicer than the night drive we did a year and a half ago.

We go to Myrtle Beach every spring and my favorite memories include getting friends together for an early morning breakfast at K&W Cafeteria and heading for out tee times at Possum Trot, and Heather Glen and having a great round of golf and a couple beers at the clubhouse afterward and then meeting up later with the girls for some dinner and entertainment. Those are some of the most fun times I have ever had anywhere.

A few years ago we had quite a group of friends and relatives visiting Myrtle Beach. To have a fun day at the course we decided to have a game of best ball mixing up the foursomes. It was a beautiful day after some rain the day before and as we all gathered round the Marshall for the rules we had to adhere to on the course, he told us the 90 degree rule was in effect. One of the girls in the group spoke up and said she didn't think she'd be able to golf in 90 degree temperatures. She was serious until we explained the rule was for the carts. We have recalled that day many times and has made quite a joke amongst us all.

My father, brother, brother-in-law, and I were playing Thislte last summer. When we got to the the par 3 sixth hole on the West Course, my dad hit long into the trees/bushes. The rest of us went on with getting ready for our chip shots (not of us hit the green). As I was standing over my ball getting ready to chip, my father came runnnig out of the trees with a ball and club. I haven't seen him move that fast in several years. After we all finished laughing at him, he explained that when he bent over to pick up his ball, a water moccassin was curled up a few feet away. When Road Trip Myrtle Beach hightlighted Thistle on their show, I jumped up and said "that's the hole the snake 'attacked' you!" My dad couldn't help but to laugh. To top our day off at Thistle, when we got to the 9th tee, we saw an alligator sunning itself next to the 1st green! Coming from Kansas, that was a pretty cool sight!

Alligators! I hate them and I will admit that they rank right up there with snakes when it comes to scary things in my life. Actually, gators must also be on a lot of other people's list as well. I do know that great golf courses are really lousy places for alligators. My favorite Myrtle Beach story, however, involves both. For the last 11 years my family has rented a beach house on Pawley's Island, south of Myrtle Beach. One year I invited a college buddy to join us and share our golf overdose. I wanted him to see why I love "The Beach" so much, so we played Caledonia Golf and Fish Club. I honestly can't recall which hole, but on one of the par-4s my friend walked out onto the tee box, which was a small island, low to the water and noticed that an alligator was swimming in a lazy crisscross very close to the tees. He hit a pretty quick drive, while watching the gator with one eye. His ball wound up about 5 feet above the water on the left, hanging on a side-hill lie. He took his stance with the alligator incident obviously well behind him, his back to the water and his feet only a foot or so above the same. In the very top of his backswing an alligator, which he had NOT noticed but had been relaxing about three feet from where he stood, swung its tail creating a huge splash. My friend's feet started moving up that small hill at the same speed as his swing as he motored away from the water. I have never seen anyone move that fast on a golf course or make a near perfect impact with feet and club moving in the same direction! Priceless!

It would be impossible to pick the "best" golfing memory of Myrtle Beach as there are so many after over 30 years of family vacations and golfing trips to that little piece of heaven. It would be safe to say that I have never had a bad time while at Myrtle Beach. What stands out are the traditons developed over the years...the morning breakfast at Akel's Pancake House or the old Regency Pancake House...the friendly wagers and side bets established on the first tee....the annoying laughing call of the ever-present crows as you stand over a 3 ft putt....those delicious hot dogs and a cold beer at the turn - hopefully paid for by your playing partners in settlement of a wager....that wonderful feeling you get as you're standing in the middle of the fairway,the summer sun and salt air refreshing your soul and washing away all the worries "back home" and you're thinking "It doesn't get any better than this!"....the traditional stop at one of the mega golf shops on 17 as you hope to "buy" a better game...rejoining the rest of the family on the beach....grabbing a quick nap,...delicious dinner and drinks,...maybe some shagging.....falling asleep to the sound of the ocean waves...and then the chance to do it all over again this next morning! Man,...you gotta love it!
