Myrtle Beach's 5 Best Seafood Buffets

Monday, July 23, 2012 by Chris King

Crab legs are just one of the popular items you can find on the best Myrtle Beach seafood buffets!

One price.

All-you-can-eat seafood.

It’s a dream come true for many of Myrtle Beach’s land-locked golf visitors. The Grand Strand is chock full of seafood buffets, but before you spend your hard-earned money and dip your first crab leg into a cup of melted butter, check out one man's list of the area’s five best:

Captain Benjamin's Original Calabash Seafood Buffet is a great stop on a Myrtle Beach golf vacation!Original Benjamin’s Calabash Seafood

Myrtle Beach’s first standout seafood buffet remains its best and largest (170 items). A nautical theme complements excellent food. Located on restaurant row, Benjamin’s serves Calabash style seafood (i.e. fried) along with crab legs, shrimp and a full buffet of Southern cuisine.

Captain George's seafood buffet is located in central Myrtle BeachCaptain George’s Seafood Restaurant

Though it lacks the longevity of the Original Benjamin’s, Captain George’s is unquestionably among the area’s best. In addition to excellent food, Captain George’s offers the added benefit of being located directly across from the PGA TOUR Superstore on 29th Avenue and it has the area’s largest dining room. You will never wait to eat there.

Crabby Mike's Seafood Buffet in Surfside BeachCrabby Mike's

From the lighthouse on the building’s exterior to the Crabmobile – a black van with a giant crab on top – Crabby Mike’s is a good-time buffet. Though Crabby Mike’s doesn’t take itself to seriously, there is no indifference in the kitchen – the food is very good.

Preston's Seafood and Country BuffetPreston’s Seafood & Country Buffet

Located at the entrance to Barefoot Resort, Preston’s offers a buffet that includes everything from crab legs to baby back ribs and prime rib. This is an under-the-radar favorite.

The Giant Crab Seafood Buffet may have a cartoon-ish logo, and a crazy decor, but it all adds to the fun!The Giant Crab Seafood Restaurant

It has a cartoonish sounding name and logo, but don’t overlook the Giant Crab. It has a raw bar, a carving station featuring prime rib, and a hibachi grill, in addition to the obvious seafood favorites, like crab legs, shrimp, scallops and mahi-mahi on its 170-item buffet. Located on Restaurant Row, the Giant Crab offers meal as tasty as its décor is outlandish.

Comments for Myrtle Beach's 5 Best Seafood Buffets

Just returned from Myrtle Beach. $26.50/person at Benjamins. To me, a bit overpriced. Foods did not smell fresh, crab legs were fingerlings
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 by Dickey Betts:
what are the prices?
Friday, April 3, 2009 by Dan Cardinale:
A couple of other comments requesed prices and one comment indicates the your #1 was unsatisfactory and over priced. This is # 3 asking for prices. Complete ignoring this request makes one wonder about the reasonableness of the restaurants and turns this probable customer completely off.
Monday, April 6, 2009 by Chris King:
I apologize for the delay in responding on the price, but they are below. As to the complaint, a restaurant serves thousands of people each year and no place has a 100 percent satisfaction rate. As a rule, Original Benjamin's is very good, hence its spot atop the list. It's also worth noting that there are several buffets in the area that are similarly named. Prices: Original Benjamin's - $27.95 Captain's George's - 27.99 Crabby Mike's - $23.99 Seafare - $23.99 Prestons - $19.95

The Original Benjamin's is king of Restaurant Row, and you can always get $4.00 off coupons from not only this establishment but all the restaurants in the area. They are all competing for the tourist dollar, but we usually hit Benjamin's at least 2-3 times per vacation week in MB. I hear Capt. George's is nice too.

I am not sure about Preston's. We were in Myrtle Beach last week and there were only a handful of cars at the place which is an indication of food inside. The other places were busy but not full as this is the off season.

If you haven't ever experienced the "Marina Raw Bar" in North Myrtle Beach you don't know what your'e missing. It is not a buffet but has the best Oyster Roast in North America.

We went to Myrtle Beach late May 2009. The first night we had Prestons and for $19.95 you get your monies worth. It was good.. but not an elaborate buffet. The next night we went to Crabby Mikes, it was good! Worth the $23.99 but we had a coupon so it was less. The next night we went to Capt. Georges.. Service was EXCELLANT because they work in teams and by far the best... so so so worth the price but again we had a coupon to save a couple bucks, Folks we cant wait to go back to Capt Georges! and this year we want to try Seafare.. I think my son will love the mermaids!

I spent 55 dollars for 2 with a money off coupon. They should have paid us for coming in. The place was busy, I guess from folks who thought the discount off coupon was a deal. We went there so my wife could order from the menu and I could get the buffet. The buffet had a small selection of food. We were told the steak was prime rib and fillet mignon. I raise cattle and I canot tell you what cut of meat that was they offered. When they did bring it to the buffet it was only 4 or 5 small over cooked tasteless stuff. The crab legs were rubbery and blah even the ones that looked like the right color. Rice was hard the "shrimp" was nasty. Do NOT waste your money on this crap they called food.

Seafare's new location on Restaurant row in North Myrtle Beach is far better than any of their past locations. I have been going to MB for the past 15 years and Seafare has consistently pleased my family and friends every single time. The seafood is amazing, the Prime Rib is simply awesome, and the new location is really nice; right along the Waterway (River as some call it).

This review is for Original Benjamins. This website was one of the main reasons for us going there. First off let me say that we did an hour of research for "Calabash" style restaurants before we decided on this one. We also used a coupon from the monster coupon book. We arrived at 5p on a Sunday night and when we got there the food looked ok, but at second glance you could tell that the food had been sitting on the bar for a while. All of the fish dishes were hard and dried out. The fried items were soggy, and the veggies were mushy. When we sat down to eat our food it was cold and tough. The only items that were good were coconut shrimp and the shrimp salad, and I do not think that those two items were worth 27.50 per person. The prime rib was gray from being over cooked, and when I did get a pink piece it was tough as well. The crab legs looked like they were the rejects from the frozen ones. They had black spots all over them. This place focuses too much on scenery and and not on quality control. Very disappointed and will not return,

I'll try leaving this message again, the 1st two buffets listed are the only ones I go to, they are the best. I have not tried Prestons but will give it a try. You can find $1-5 off couons on the Monster Coupon Book, the discount depends upon the time of day you eat, for $5 off you need to be there before 3:30 and so on. These books may be found all over the Strand. I have found for the best discounts with a lot of buy 1 get 1 free and 50% off as well as entertainment and things to do discounts, the Myrtle Beach Promotions dot com fundraising book to be the best and your helping local charities by using the book.

This has been a great resource for me as I hope to venture out to somewhere special today to celebrate my birthday. Finances are rough but I still want to dine out at a great seafood/country buffet for around $10 to $20. I have eaten and worked at the Original Benjamin's and it is very top notch with the food, management, staff, and scenery. It is a very family oriented place.I would love to try all the other restuarants as well. Other notable restaurants include Hooks, and Southern Suppers (southern cooking and crablegs) in Garden City. Preston's appears promising as prices do often change. Coupons would be very nice, because i need a Birthday deal four a family of four adults.
