Monday After The Masters Ready To Tee Off in Myrtle Beach

annika1.jpgMost of the nation eagerly anticipates The Masters. In Myrtle Beach, it’s the end of golf’s most famed event the people look forward to, because that is when the fun begins.

For the eighth consecutive year, the Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After the Master’s Celebrity Pro-Am will be played at the Dye Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf on April 12. The event, in its 16th year overall, always brings a star-studded field to the Grand Strand and 2010 is no different.

Among the participants scheduled to play are Jim Furyk, Boomer Esiason, Samuel L. Jackson, Jim McMahon, John Daly, Woody Austin, LPGA player and Conway native Kristy McPherson, Chris Dimarco, PGA Championship winner Rich Beem and 2009 U.S. Open runner-up Ricky Barnes, among many others.

Monday After the Masters tournament tickets are on sale at the House of Blues, the Barefoot Resort & Golf pro shops and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets are $15 with children 12 years of age and younger admitted free. All ticket proceeds benefit the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation, which supports the educational needs of children in South Carolina and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation.

“Each year, the list of great athletes and celebrities continues to grow, and to know we come to Myrtle Beach to have fun and raise money for a great cause (is phenomenal),” Hootie’s lead singer and country music star Darius Rucker said. “It is without a doubt one of things I look forward to doing every spring.”

The Monday After the Masters has grown into one of golf’s leading celebrity events, attracting the likes of Bill Murray, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods over the years. Golf Channel will be in town for the event, filming a 30-minute special on the Monday After the Masters, and filing a report on the event for Golf Central.

Golf Channel is hardly the only media outlet covering the event. The nation’s largest sports talk radio station, New York City’s 660 The Fan, will be on-site and Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton, the hosts of the station’s morning drive program, will be broadcasting live from the Dye Clubhouse. ESPN Radio’s Dallas affiliate will also have a program originating live from the tournament, as will The Gerry Dulac Show from Pittsburgh.

The day, which begins with a celebrity long drive contest, features an 18-hole captain’s choice golf tournament at the Dye Club. In 2009, the six-person team led by Hootie & The Blowfish lead guitarist Mark Bryan, Bill Murray and Woody Austin captured the Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am title with a score of 18-under-par.

The Dye Club, one of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses, according to Golf Digest, is an ideal venue for the event. The stadium style design allows the course to welcome 6,000 spectators, who have the opportunity to meet some of sports, music and entertainment’s biggest stars.

And we have reserved at the Barefoot on the Dye Course! What a way to celebrate the 60th anniversary year of my husband, who dreamed for that trip for years. You're in for a treat -- This is a great event and sells out nearly every year. Great crowd interaction and my wife and I never miss it!
