With six holes that offer stunning views of a saltwater marsh and memorable inland holes, choosing favorites at Pawleys Plantation is difficult. But  assistant pro, Dale Ketola, offered an insider’s perspective on his three favorite holes.

No. 13 – 145-yard, par 3: The course’s most memorable hole, No. 13 requires a short iron into what amounts to an island green.

“It can reward you with a good shot or penalize you with a bad one,” Ketola says.

No. 13 is the site of Ketola’s only career hole-in-one and was named to the Dream 18 by The Sun News.

No. 16 – 444-yard, par 4: A dogleg left that opens into a full view of the marsh, the hole requires a well placed drive and the nerves to stare down the marsh on the approach.

“With a double green connected to No. 13, it’s a tough hole but fair and beautiful as well,” Ketola says.

No. 1 – 511-yard, par 5: On a challenging course, Nicklaus gives players an opportunity to get off to a good start, something Ketola appreciates.

“For me, if I hit a good drive I can get there in two and hopefully start my day off with a birdie,” the former Coastal Carolina golfer says.

#13-Great hole with the wind blowing. You can use a wedge to a 7 iron depending on the wind. The view is unbelievable. It also offers different tee box distances so you can choose your poison. #10- I enjoy the layout of the hole.Hit a driver towards the waters edge and an 8 iron to the green over water.Hit the sand on the right and a need to pitch up to the waters edge, which a shot to the green needs to be within putting distance to par this hole. The layout which features a view of the 11 th hole is really quite nice.Just keep away from the waters edge you might find an aligator or two. #17-Another par3 going the opposite direction from #13.This is a tough enough hole with no wind.I have hit a 5 iron to a 2 iron on this hole. Not much to work with on the green. It runs rectangular right to left.If you hit the ball to strong its easy to end up in the woods behind the hole. Hole #17 is always a difficult challenge. My crew and I make it a point to play Pawleys every year we come down to South Myrtle Beach. We have enjoyed golf there since the early 90's.
