Heather
Glen Golf Links resides in Little River, just across Highway 17
from its renowned sister course Glen Dornoch. The North Strand
facility is a few short miles north of Tidewater and south of a
horde of highly regarded layouts in Brunswick County.
The Grand Strand has opened more than 60 golf courses since the
first tee shot was struck at Heather Glen in 1987, and as the
number of area courses grew, the media attention paid to Heather Glen slowly waned.
While the limelight may have moved on, smart golfers didn’t.
Heather Glen was the apple of the golf world’s eye when it opened,

Five Things You Need to Know About Heather Glen
Myrtle
Beach golf aficionados are familiar with Heather Glen, a 27-hole
facility in Little River that is one of the area’s best. The
Willard Byrd/Clyde Johnston co-creation is a Scottish inspired
design that brings players back year after year.
While course regulars are familiar with the layout, here are five
things you need to know about Heather Glen:
1. Upon its opening in 1987, Heather Glen was
named Best New Public Course in America by Golf Digest. The Red and
White nines were the two that secured the prestigious honor, but
the Blue nine, which opened in 1990, is every bit their equal....
Myrtle Beach Golf Buzz: Blair O'Neal Enjoys the Dunes Club
Myrtle
Beach Golf Buzz host Blair O’Neal took her first trip to the Dunes
Club, the Grand Strand’s most revered course. O’Neal sat down with
Dunes Club head pro Dennis Nicholl to get an inside look at a
layout that is ranked among America’s top 100 public courses by
both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. From the famed 13th hole to the
Dunes Club’s rich history – the course has hosted the U.S. Women’s
Open, six Senior PGA Tour Championships, and the finals of the
PGA’s Q-School – O’Neal provides golfers an in-depth look at the
layout.

Heather Glen Golf Links: Three Best Holes
Heather Glen
Golf Links is one of the quiet stars of the Myrtle Beach golf
scene.
More than 60 courses have opened since Heather Glen debuted in
1987, but the Scottish-inspired facility has remained a favorite.
We recently paid a visit to the Little River layout and long-time
head pro Steve Heher provided an inside look at the best hole on
each of Heather Glen’s three nine-hole layouts.
1. The par 4, ninth hole on the red
nine earned its nickname, “The Long Hole.” Playing 447
yards from the tips (and a stout 403 from the white tees), the
dogleg left is the hardest on the Red nine.
The hole often...

Man Uses Golf Cart and Club to Attack Slow Players!
Nearly
everyone associated with the game of golf will acknowledge the need
to confront slow play, but Jacksonville, Fl., resident James Alonzo
Hines (allegedly) took things a little too far.
Hines became enraged at what he perceived to be
slow play by a group that was enjoying a bachelor party and things
got ugly.
After informing the slow-playing offenders that he was a regular at
the course and, ahem, encouraging them to “respect their elders,”
Hines took matters into his own hands.
“Hampe said he was sitting in a cart when shouting began
between the two groups from a distance. He said Hines...

Best in Class: Top Flite Gamer V2 Can't Be Beat for $20
The
introduction of Titleist’s Pro V1 and other similar balls more than
a decade ago changed the game at the professional level. Driving
distance skyrocketed, rendering many classic golf courses helpless
in the wake of the super-charged balls.
Talking heads continue to fret about the impact of distance on the
game.
Meanwhile, most of us couldn’t hit a 300-yard drive with the
benefit of the roll an airport runway provides.
So what’s the average mid to high handicapper supposed to do when
prepping for his next Myrtle Beach golf trip? Paying $48 for a dozen balls
and losing three of them en route...

Myrtle Beach golf for many years. A self-contained golf oasis, it

an acre-and-a-half putting green. Not to mention the Scottish style
clubhouse that dominates the landscape. In this edition of The

out the real history of this Myrtle Beach tradition.

Members Club at Grande Dunes Delivers Memorable Experience
In
the absence of a brand new Myrtle Beach golf course, Members Club
at Grande Dunes has delivered the next best thing: an outstanding
private course opening its fairways to some public play for the
first time.
Members Club opened on June 2, 2005 as one of the centerpiece
amenities of Grande Dunes, the area’s most upscale development.
Access to the Nick Price design was limited, but word of its
quality and luxury spread, making it one of the Grand Strand’s most
sought-after tee times.
Much to the delight of players, Members Club is now open to golfers
in town on a package.
Members Club reflects...
Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Photo Gallery
The 2012 Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am again attracted a star-studded field to the Dye Course, one of the most decorated Myrtle Beach golf courses. Enjoy a look at the day's sights and sounds, beginning with the live broadcast of ESPN Radio's Mike & Mike in the Morning Show.
Five Things You Need to Know About the Members Club at Grande Dunes
The Members
Club at Grande Dunes has been one of the most sought after Myrtle
Beach golf tee times since the course opened in 2005. For much of
its young life, the Members Club was exclusively private but it’s
now open to some public play for visitors on a golf package.
As a result, the seven-year-old layout is brand new to the vast
majority of Myrtle Beach golfers. With that in mind, we present
five things you need to know about the Nick Price design.
1. The course was designed with membership in
mind, so the layout is challenging but imminently playable. The
fairways are generous and...
The Myrtle Beach Golf Buzz Visits the Dye Course at Barefoot Resort
Dave
Genevro, General Manager of Barefoot Resort talks about the layout,
and how it stacks up against other courses.
"The course is a Pete Dye design. Known, of the four courses on
site, probably as one of the toughest courses," says Genevro. It's
definitely a course that you have to play more than once to
appreciate. A lot of people who play it for the first time, they
think it's too difficult. But it just comes out to finding out a
lot of times where you don't want to hit it, versus where to hit it
to make it more comfortable playing."
On rumors that the 18th hole is one of the toughest in...

Three Best Holes at the Members Club at Grande Dunes
The Members
Club at Grande Dunes has been one of the most exclusive
Myrtle Beach golf courses since its opening in 2005,
in part because of the variety of challenges it offers. Members
Club has the ability to test low handicappers while providing those
of us with more modest skills a playable layout.
Frank Coughlin, the Members Club general manager, provided a
close-up look at the challenges presented by layout’s three best
holes.
1. The par 5 ninth hole provides
a great finish to the opening side. Playing 577 yards from the
professional tees, it’s not short but it does play slightly
downhill...
